Featured Artist: Esther Barr

Old Town La Quinta is proud to feature the work of Esther Barr, a Los Angeles–based artist known for her intricate, nature-inspired copper creations.

Esther’s artistic journey began in Marblehead, Massachusetts, a historic coastal town with a vibrant creative community. She studied illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design and experimental film at the California Institute of the Arts before spending more than 20 years as a visual effects animator and supervisor at major studios in Los Angeles.

Her path eventually led her to metalworking, where she discovered a new way to bring texture, movement, and dimension to life. Today, Esther combines her background in printmaking, metalworking, and animation to create complex copper relief works using thin sheets of metal. Through multilayered patinas and mixed media techniques, she produces richly textured pieces that wrap around panels, frames, and sculptural forms.

Inspired by the natural landscapes of the West, Esther has spent the past two decades exhibiting in galleries and traveling to juried art festivals throughout California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona. These regions continue to influence her evolving body of work. She currently works from her studio in Burbank, California.
